Harry Colt’s knowledge of the game, his vision and his love of the land allowed him to create courses of great distinction that have stood the test of time as well as any in the world.
His list of creations is a roll of honour and his design here at bath stands today as one of his very best.
Although christened Henry Shapland, Colt was known as “Harry” throughout his life. Born in Highgate, he attended Monkton Combe School near Bath Golf Club, excelling at cricket, rugby and rowing. He later studied law at Clare College, Cambridge, and captained the University Golf Club in 1889.
